“Your silence will not protect you” - Audrey Lorde
In this Election, we lived by these words as so many have spoken out for dignity and justice. I am proud to serve the vibrant and growing APANO family, 5,000 Asians, Pacific Islanders and allies, who believe in a world where all people have the rights, recognition and resources to thrive. We reject the fear and division, and call forth our humanity as we work for social justice. As we reflect on the election results, the wins and the losses, we are preparing APANO to strengthen our community organizing, to build our capacity to advocate, and to win campaigns on issues we care about.
- While we lost Measure 88, we broadened APANO’s leadership for immigrant rights with hundreds of volunteers, including those who shared #100DaysofStories. We will continue to work with Causa for Safe Roads and Immigrant Rights. Nothing has changed the need for all drivers to be tested and insured, to be able to take care of their families.
- Appreciations to over 100 APANO volunteers who registered 4,000 voters, distributed 50,000 voter guides in 9 languages, and dialed 25,000 voters.
- We strengthened our alliances for racial equity, including the Oregon Health Equity Alliance and the Coalition of Communities of Color.
- Thank you to our organizing team and our civic engagement staff led by Paolo Esteban, Kathy Wai, Luann Algoso & Amanda So. Join us Nov 13th for our General Meeting, Dec 1st for our joint legislative kickoff, and Dec 11th for our year-end party.
With peace and gratitude,
Rev. Joseph Santos-Lyons
Executive Director
